December Update from Netball President, Hayley Walter

Wow, I cant believe 2019 is coming to an end and with that the 2020 season is fast approaching. Unfortunately we farewell our 2019 A grade coach Brooke McIntyre and the very talented Brittany Bugg, Courtney Maynard and Paige McRostie from our club. They have been a tremendous asset to our club and paved the way in our rebuild, and in their words thoroughly enjoyed their time at Kyby, but unfortunately the travel after a couple of years was beginning to wear them down and they need to focus on their careers and netball in Adelaide. With Brooke being an incredibly strong defender the club has developed well in that regard, and with that in mind our focus in the coming years is going to be on goal development. We will also be focusing on attitude and the importance of being a team player, and how you can play a just as vital role off the court as well as on the court. We are all striving and working together for club success which is why we have included local legend Glen Mathieson “Matho” into our team in this regard.

There will be two specialist training clinics one on Sunday the 16th of February and the other on the 15th of March for Under 15 level and up, with retired State league coach Robyn Jezewski , current league reserves coach Leslie McIntyre, Brooke McIntyre, and local legend Karen Justin. We will be splitting into our different areas of goals, mid court, and defence, and be given set plays and strategies which we will continue to work on throughout the season with our aim to start developing consistency across all grades. These training dates our compulsory so please make sure you clear your schedules now.

Our preseason begins Tuesday the 7th of January joining the footballers on IB Edwards oval with the one and only Luke Crossling leading some intense fitness sessions, and Thursday night from the 9th of January for netballers and junior netballers at the ‘Munn House’ with Nadia Sears, make sure you bring your bathers on hot nights as we will be getting wet.

Netball trials will be on the 1st, 4th and 13th of February at the Naracoorte High School. We plan on using external people to do the selection from these trials so it is a completely unbiased approach; everyone needs to attend at least two trials.
Junior netball training will start from Thursday the 5th of March at Kyby, and we look forward to seeing many juniors on board. We will have an “intention to play” form out soon that needs completing by the 29th of January so we can present our predicted junior numbers to the KNTNA meeting in early Feb for the 2020 season.

Our committee has been busy organising fundraising in the off season so we can focus solely on netball in the season proper. Following our efforts at the One Night Stand at Lucindale we have also run a very successful shopping evening and movie night, and in the new year we have a trading table booked for the 22nd of February in the town square, and our famous Pimms tent booked at the taste festival for the 8th of Feb. Please mark these dates in your diary as any help will be much appreciated.

There will be many new faces out at Kyby next year and some old returning so please make sure you do your best to make them feel welcome.

On that note I would like to wish you all a very safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you all in 2020.

Hayley Walter
